The impeller is what actually moves the water through the pump. This screws onto the motor shaft at the stainless steel threaded insert seen in the rear view of the impeller below.

When changing the impeller, it is a good idea to go ahead and change the shaft seal at the same time. The shaft seal fits between the impeller and seal plate.

The part number for the impeller is molded into the side of the impeller as shown below.
