A leak coming from the area of the pump motor shaft is normally caused by a bad shaft seal or boot. When replacing either the seal or the boot, it is a good idea to replace both at the same time. The rubber boot fits into the small circular depression in the center of the seal plate. The metal portion of the large half of the shaft seal fits in the rubber boot as shown below. The white ceramic face of the smaller half of the shaft seal will face toward the larger half. The rubber face of the smaller half will fit against the back of the impeller. Be sure that both faces on the shaft seal halves are clean of any dirt or oil when they are installed. |
